Biography:

Greg is certified as a Family Law Specialist by the Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California.  He is the region’s only Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (aaml.org; socal.aaml.org) and of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (iafl.com).  The AAML is the nation’s premier family law organization, and the IAFL is the world’s.

He has the highest possible rating, “AV” Preeminent, from Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Ratings.  He has been annually listed as a “Superlawyer” since 2007 (in the “top 100” lawyers overall in 2007) and one of “Southern California’s Best Lawyers” since 2008.

Greg left his tenured partner position with the region’s biggest law firm and founded Herring Law Group to more efficiently and effectively serve his select family law clients.  Greg founded Herring Law Group to better focus his practice and serve his clients.  Good communications are paramount and clients are included throughout the development of their cases.  If a matter might require litigation, Greg is a courtroom force.  On the other hand, fair settlements are always encouraged; those are achieved through strength, smarts and preparation.

Greg’s extensive background in corporate litigation uniquely qualifies HLG to handle business and professional practice matters in the family law environment.  We routinely guide complex valuation, goodwill, property characterization, shareholder rights, “family enterprise” and income disputes.

HLG also handles other family law challenges including custody, parenting and domestic violence.

Greg regularly writes about family law and teaches it across the state.  He routinely serves on family law panels with various experts and judicial officers.  He has been retained as an expert in multiple family law professional standards cases in different counties.  He has a statewide presence.

Out of the office and courtroom, Greg is a family man with outdoor interests including beekeeping, fly fishing and surfing.  He is the proprietor of Herring BeerFarm, where he grows hops and brews a variety of ales.  Stories about his work/life balance have been featured in the Los Angeles Times and Coastal Living magazine.
