The Oakland City Attorney’s Office seeks a well-qualified attorney to serve as Deputy City Attorney II or III – Rent Adjustment Program (“DCA-RAP”), with placement depending on experience.
The DCA-RAP will provide advice and counsel in practice areas including rent regulations and landlord/tenant law (such as evictions, renting and remedies), code enforcement, public nuisance, administrative hearings, affirmative litigation and constitutional issues (such as due process, equal protection, privileges & immunities, right to travel and residency requirements). The DCA-RAP also will provide advice on a wide range of issues such as conflicts, ethics, contracting, and drafting and researching legislation, regulations and policies.
Experience providing advice to Boards/Commissions and/or City Councils, ordinance and regulation drafting, administrative procedures (including administrative remedies and rule-making) and litigation (including writs, appeals and affirmative litigation) is a plus. Knowledge and expertise in municipal law also is a plus.
